Making a Chopstick Holder

Rather than just throwing away the chopstick wrapper, here is an idea to turn it into something useful. It is also a great conversation piece and might gain you some points from your date or companions at the dinner table. Folding this chopstick holder should take less than a minute once you give it a practice or two.

Start out with a simple chopstick wrapper that came with the chopstick that you usually get from a Chinese, Japanese, Korean or whatever restaurant that give you chopsticks. Sometimes the wrapper is so nice that you feel sorry to just toss it out. Well, the better the wrapper is, the fancier a chopstick holder you will end up with.

First fold the wrapper into half and then half again. Try to pick the best looking surface to be the at the outer most layer. You will end up with something like this (outer most layer is at the bottom in this picture):

The next step is optional but essential if you want to get a good looking final product. If you did not do this step, the holder will not have an even bottom. Basically you want to tuck the inner layers of the folds in to keep it from sticking out when you finally fold up the holder.

Start by grabbing the inner most two layer of the folder wrapper and fold them in on the two sides. You will need to make a slight angular fold at the end to achieve folding the two sides. Next fold the whole thing lengthwise in the middle.

Tuck in the two ends with an angular fold on each side. Here is a close up look at the two ends:

And we are done. Here is a picture of the underside of the holder with the two sides folded in:

Turn the holder over and set you chopstick on you new chopstick holder (or chopstick rest, if you want to call it that).

This should take up some of the time to shorten your wait for the Peking Duck appetizer that you ordered. Enjoy!!!
